I am just sickened by the Michael Vick dog abuse stories and could really use a lift. Does anyone have a nice dog anecdote? Or really I guess I mean a "human being nice to a dog" anecdote? I just feel like the world animal lover's karma has been disturbed . . .
Here's my entry:
This time last summer we went to the pound, a necessary evil since one of our dogs had escaped the fence and if you don't do a "walk through" the kennels every three days, the city is allowed to d…

It happened again last Friday, July 20, when a morning meeting got cancelled. I probably should have scheduled with another client, or started declutttering the back room for next weekend's guests . . . but instead I coerced my 16-year-old, jumped in the car and headed th…

Check out this discussion about the book that made you love to read--or just helped you consider reading as a possibility. It's an add-on to a poll started by the First Book organization, and I want the additional question answered of whether you feel like your old favorite still holds up today.
My mind's wandering over to the children's library . . .

Sure, it's still July, but I'm thinking Christmas, and cookbooks. Know any great ones for gifts? Any new ones come out that I've missed? I've been poring over the South Beach Taste of Summer cookbook--never could stick to the diet, but I love the recipes involving lots of fruit and seafood.

If not for a too-quick read of the title on a press release, I would have missed this fun title altogether. Researching a piece about popular diet books and plans, my tunnel vision made it seem like "1,001 Things to Eat Before You Diet" was probably a list of a bunch of "miracle foods," like, say sweet potatoes or celery, and eating them would negate the need for a diet.
Not true, not true. Ian Jackman's labor of love is actually a wicked temptress, a list of great foods coast…

Thanks for the kind welcome. I work full time, so only have limited moments to devote to hobbies and personally interesting/fulfilling pursuits. Unfortunately my gardening, cooking and reading habits do not pay the bills for our travels... I'd be pleased to be included for any kind of book question or discussion. Not sure I have anything worthwhile to contribute, but appreciate being asked.
Thanks. Have a great day. -BKW
First I love your pictures. The cat one is priceless. A great Christmas gift is to make your own cookbook. I made one with my 86 year old mother in law that she gave to her grandaughters. We used an application called my publisher, it is a company that makes coffee table books with your own pictures. We added different pictures from our family, Mom wrote something about why this recipe was special or who gave it to her and then we put the recipe on the page next to it. The book was bound with a leather cover, and it really is a keepsake. If it will help, I can try and send you what a couple of Iooked like. This year I am going to make themed cookbooks with the flipbook application that my husband wrote for me.
as i read a couple of your blogs, i was wondering, how to inspire a 17 year old reluctant reader son to read this summer? any suggestions?? he's on a crash course to improve his ACT score this summer. . . reading will be a real natural way to build his vocabulary and sentence structure.
any tips would be most welcome!
